Obituary

Our precious mother, Betty Jean Abbott, 85, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Amberwood Rehab Facility in Benton, Arkansas.  She was a great and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and servant of God. She was an exceptional person loved by many.  We will miss her being here, but we are thankful for the time and precious memories God has given us.

Betty is survived by her two children, Tammy Oliver (Jim) Of Maumelle, AR and Brent Abbott (Belinda) of Benton, AR.  Six Grandchildren (Kelly, Kim, Lindsey, James Chris, Taylor, Jamie), Four Great grandchildren (Tyler, Jordyn, Caleb, Theo), Sister (Darlene Covert), Brothers (Jimmy, Terry, and Darrell Chism) and a multitude of nieces, nephews, brother in laws and sister in laws.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Hubert Abbott, daughter Pamela Jean Crews Chaney, great grandson Oliver DuBois, great granddaughter Haley Whitaker, parents Vernon and Cordia Chism, Sisters Juanita Hester, Sarah Wallace, and brother Edward Chism.

Betty was born October 6, 1938 to Vernon and Cordia Chism in Casa, Arkansas. She was a graduate of Benton High School.  She attended Social Hill Missionary Baptist Church most of her life.  Her most cherished job was raising her three children.  She was a wonderful mama, always there when we needed her the most.  She offered the most support, wisdom, and love in great abundance.  She was a beautiful Christian woman who had compassion and love for anyone she met.  She had a calmness about her that was most comforting.  She was so sweet and kind and always made us feel so good every time we saw her.   She was a light for all who knew her.  Her wit and fun personality just made for the best visits with her.  Simply stated, she was a beautiful angelic soul who warmed many hearts.  Heaven has gained a true angel.

A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday October 9, 2024. Visitation is at 10:00 am, funeral service following at 11:00 am at Ashby Funeral Home 108 West Narroway Street, Benton, AR 72015.  Officiating the service is Brother Jeff Langley.

The family wishes to thank all the nurses, CNA's, admin staff, and Elite Hospice staff at Amberwood Rehab for the wonderful care they provided our mom during her stay there.  We appreciate all of the love and compassion that was given to her.

Mama,

You meant the world to me,

You made me who I was meant to be,

Nobody else held me so tight,

Or made me feel so right,

Your kind heart was so bright,

It left my soul full of love and light,

As we lift you up to heaven so high,

We are all here to say our goodbyes.

Until we meet again, we love you mama.
