Birdie Marie Grimmett, 73, of Lacey, passed suddenly on July 11.  Birdie awoke early Sunday with severe stomach pain and was taken to Drew Memorial ER.  After examination, she was rushed to Baptist Hospital where her battle began.  Her initial struggle looked hopeful but complications between the pancreas and a gallstone led to a struggle that she could not win.  Her battle was lost at 5:47 pm.  She was born in Hazen, on September 30, 1949 to the late Carl and Robbie Hill.

In addition to her parents, Birdie was also preceded in death by her sisters Ann Johnston, Leota Jenkins, Mary Morris, and Francis Clark.

She is survived by a husband of almost 51 years, Doug Grimmett of Lacey; one son, Sam Grimmett (Theresa) and one granddaughter, Keira all of Avilla; three brothers, Arnold Hill of Carlisle, Johnny Hill of Rogers, and Billy Hill of Mountain View; one sister, Sylvia Anderson of Hazen; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Birdie was a 1972 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello.  She worked at Alltel, Magnolia Baptist Church, Captains Table in Monticello, and as a homemaker.  Birdie was successful at each one.  She enjoyed canning, quilting, reading, and playing bingo.

A celebration of Birdie's life will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 11 am until 1 pm at the Lacey United Methodist Church.  A short service will be followed by memorabilia of her life in the fellowship area with finger food for all guests.

All friends and neighbors are invited to remember one of Heavens newest residents at this celebration of Birdie's life.
