Daska Hazel Phelps Fulcher, age 93, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025. She was born on November 5, 1931, in Lodges Corner, Arkansas, to her parents, Percy Wheeler Phelps and Hazel Hillman Phelps.
Daska graduated from high school in Stuttgart, Arkansas, in 1949. She received her teaching degree from ASTC in Conway and later her master's degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was an elementary school teacher in Benton Public Schools for 30 years.
Daska married Melton Fulcher in December 1952. She was an active member of DAR, the Saline County Extension Club, and the Saline County Retired Teachers Association. Daska was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as an outstanding cook and seamstress. She was an active member and pianist for many years at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and, most recently, a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. Daska was also an avid Razorback fan.
Daska is preceded in death by her husband, Melton Fulcher; brothers Harry, Layton, Jack, and Joe Phelps; sisters Caroline, Esther, Lucille, and Sarah; son-in-law Gordon Askew; and grandson, Clay Fulcher Askew.
She is survived by her four children, Ronald (Patti) Fulcher of Sugar Land, Texas, Donald (Becky) Fulcher, Richard (Angie) Fulcher, and Jean Ann (David) White, all of Benton; eight grandchildren, Leslie Fulcher, Leah (Billy) Ruck, Russell (Krystal) Askew, Luke (Morgan) Fulcher, Tyler (Maeghan) Askew, Beau (Allison) Fulcher, Holt (Whitney) Fulcher, and Blake (Haley Jo) Askew. Daska had fifteen great-grandchildren and another on the way. She is also survived by one sister, Helen Ann Lucas of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Albey, Divine Home Care, Pleasant Hill Senior Services, and Elite Hospice for their compassionate care.
Pallbearers are Russell Askew, Luke Fulcher, Beau Fulcher, Holt Fulcher, Blake Askew, and Billy Ruck.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2nd, at Ashby Funeral Home, 108 W. Narroway, Benton, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 3rd, at Ashby Funeral Home with Brother Tyler Askew and Brother Randy Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at New Friendship Cemetery.
