Dave Hampton, 87, of Benton, a man of remarkable achievements and profound impact, passed away on April 30, 2024. Born on August 19, 1936, in Van Buren, Arkansas where he lived a life that left an unforgettable mark on the world around him.

Dave's journey began with accolades on the basketball court, earning him the title of Consensus All-State High School Basketball player. His talent paved the way for basketball scholarships at Tulsa University, followed by another at Arkansas Tech. However, Dave's ambitions extended beyond the court.

In 1959, he graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, setting the stage for a groundbreaking career. Joining IBM that same year, Dave embarked on a path that would revolutionize the technological landscape of Arkansas and beyond.

His legacy includes installing the first computer in Arkansas for the International Paper Company in Pine Bluff, a milestone that foreshadowed his future contributions to the technology field. Dave's professional journey saw him recognized with the IBM Outstanding Contribution Award for his partnership with Reynolds Aluminum.

In 1970, he ascended to IBM World Trade, where his leadership and expertise flourished. Dave's career took him to Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf region, where he served as the Leader of the Middle East, leaving an indelible mark on IBM's global operations.

Dave's impact extended beyond the realm of technology. As Sr VP and Chief Information Officer at Union National Bank, he reshaped the banking landscape.  Continuing his trajectory of success, Dave assumed the roles of President and CEO of Worthen Banking Services and later Boatman's Bank in Conway, leaving an enduring legacy of excellence and innovation in the banking sector.

As a charter member of the Arkansas Academy of Computing at the University of Arkansas, Dave's commitment to advancing technology and education has remained unwavering throughout his life.

Dave's journey into fatherhood began in 1960 when he welcomed his son Chris Hampton. In 1962, he was blessed with another son, Clay Hampton. Later, Dave married Dianne and welcomed two more sons, Chris and Blake Phillips. Together, they formed a close-knit unit, full of love and shared experiences, enriching Dave's life in ways he could have never imagined.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Harley Hampton and Carmen Nichols Hampton, his son Clay Hampton, and his brothers, Jim and Don Hampton.

He leaves a legacy of love and dedication, cherished by his loving wife, Dianne Hampton, his sons and daughter-in-laws Chris and Robin Hampton, Chris and Paula, Blake and Sarah Phillips, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Dave Hampton's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of leadership, innovation, and dedication will continue to inspire generations to come. He is survived by his loving family, friends, and a community forever touched by his extraordinary life.

Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6 at the First United Methodist Church in Benton with memorial services beginning at 11:00 a.m.
