David Michael (Mike) Newcomb, age 68, of Benton, was born November 18, 1957 to Verna Troboy Newcomb and went to be with his Savior on January 2, 2026.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his "kids", Matt Newcomb (Kelly) of Benton and Jon Newcomb (Jennifer) of Benton; sister, Janet Ford (Mike) of Benton; brother, Phillip Newcomb (Tami) of Sheridan; sister-in-law, Joyce Robertson (Ronnie) of Haskell; brother-in-law, Gary Fitzhugh (Jalane) of Benton; brother-in-law, Jim Cross of Spokane Valley, Washington; as well as several nieces & nephews.  Dad is also survived by his dear friends from the "gas company" or "Arkla" as he called it even though it had changed names & owners a few times, Curtis, Lumpy, Swaty, and Sharon.  Mike was preceded by his work brothers, Tim and Donnie.  He is also survived by the guys he spent so much time with chasing crappie on Lake Ouachita, Wimp, Casey, and Melvin.

Dad was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, the love of his life, our mom, Tawanna "Sissy" Newcomb.

Dad for a time, when me and my brother were very young, worked two jobs but still never missed a ball practice, game, or anything to do with family.  He never complained no matter how tough the situation, he faced EVERYTHING with a "Lets get it done" or "We will get through it".  Dad loved growing a garden and was constantly studying the art of growing the perfect tomato.  There wasn't a crappie that didn't need to be caught, but he threw the small ones back for "These kids coming up gotta fish too".  Mike always kept his head no matter how bad the situation and worked through every problem while keeping those around him calm.

He loved dogs and even raised some prize winning walker hounds in his younger days.  Dad was an avid reader; especially when it came to American History with a particular interest in the "mountain men or frontier days".  He loved watching and keeping up with local college and high school football.  His philosophy was summed up with "if your offensive or defensive line ain't worth a damn then just get on the bus and go to the house".  Mike treated everyone with respect and didn't put any weight into titles or how big a fellas bank account was.  Dad was a patriot and loved his country in spite of its government.  He loved to talk about Americans like:  Chesty Puller, Stonewall Jackson, George S. Patton, and Nathan Bedford Forrest.  One of his favorite quotes was by Lt. General Lewis "Chesty" Puller and it was, "Take me to the brig, I want to see the real Marines".  He would mention that quote and then smile.

Dad was full of life.  He never, ever let the bad outweigh the good.  Dad always led by example and truly lived by family over all except God.  He taught us that it was never, ever, under any circumstances ok to quit.  We fight to the end.  Mike Newcomb, our dad, is with our Father in Heaven, we will see him again!!!

Pallbearers will be Wimp Crouch, Trey Jordan, Chris Jordan, Jared Brothers, Shane Hackler, Shane Gibbons, Kyle Sanders, Shane Clancy, and Ed Curtis.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8 at Ashby Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 9 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery.  Bud Lidzy and Wimp Crouch will be officiating.
