Delmar Lu Hercher Smith, age 86, of Benton, passed away December 31, 2025.  She was born October 6, 1939, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the only child of William Delmar Hercher and Luedna Bayliss Hercher.  She received her early education from the Pine Bluff education system and graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1957.  The following four years were spent at Hendrix College where she received a BS degree, and met her future husband, Charles William Smith.  They were married in 1962 and moved to Benton, Charles' hometown.

She is predeceased by her parents and husband, Charles, who passed away in 2005.

She is survived by her family that includes sons Lane Hercher Smith (Amy), Charles Mark Smith (Tamme Adams), and William Lyle Smith (Jenny). She especially enjoyed being a grandmother and great grandmother to Nathan Lane Smith (Laura Beth) and their children, Rhett Deeter Smith and Savannah Lane Smith; Laura Elizabeth Dixon (Jonathan) and their child, Day Elizabeth Dixon; Grace Rebekah Lee (Coulton) and their children, Nora Cloe Lee and Decker Coulton Lee; Annah Katherine Muschalek (Jordan), and Emily Claire Hawkins (Tristan).

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Wesley Sunday School Class, Tuesday Club and PEO, Chapter DM.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 4 from 5-8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Benton, in the Christian Life Center.  The funeral service is Monday, January 5 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Benton, followed by a graveside service at Rosemont Cemetery in Benton.

Her grandson, grandsons-in-law, and family friend, Wade Partridge, will serve as pallbearers.
