USAF Master Sgt. (Ret.) Gerald W. Garland, age 85, of Mabelvale, passed away Tuesday, January, 14, 2025. He was born May 13, 1939 in Independence Village, Iowa, the son of Gerald E and Della (Riche) Garland. Gerald served his country in the USAF as a flight engineer retiring after 20 years of service with an honorable discharge. He also worked for 10 years for the Michigan Department of Corrections as a prison guard. Buck as his family and friends called him, like to stay busy. He volunteered to transport mobile homes to Katrina victims for a few months after the hurricane. He also volunteered to transport veterans to medical appointments across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Buck liked to fish, go to garage sales, but his greatest passion was traveling around the country. Buck and his wife Peggy were able to spend a number of years traveling around the country, which they enjoyed.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, three brothers, David, Michael, & Jerry. Buck is survived by 4 children, Kevin (Brenda) Garland of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Deborah Garland and Mike Garland of Arkansas, and Carole Garland of Tennessee; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother Kenny Garland of Arkansas, as well as extended family and friends.
