Gerald "Cooner" Smith passed away at the age of 87 on September 29, 2024. He was born on September 19, 1937, in Bauxite, Arkansas. Gerald was the son of George Edward and Blanche (Price) Smith.  He served his country as a proud member of the United States Army.  Gerald was a member of First Baptist church of Benton.  He spent most of his career as a machinist at Collins Radio in Richardson, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Louise (Hopkins) Smith; parents, George Edward and Blanche (Price) Smith; daughter and son in law, Sherri Linda (Smith) Sullivan and C.Y. Sullivan; brothers, Gordon, John, Eugene, George II, and Carl Smith; sister, Sadie Smith.

Gerald is survived by his daughter, Sharon Louise (Smith) Gaines and son-in-law, Russell Gaines.  Gerald also leaves behind his grandchildren; Erron and Corey McCormack, Brooks Sullivan, April and Tim Gates, Crystal and Jason Kavanaugh, Derek and Elizabeth Gaines, Dylan and Jeanine Gaines, Jennifer and Ramone Arteaga, and Heather and Jeremy Casey; great-grandchildren, Jay, Jordan and Justin Kavanaugh, Jaycee, Jacon, and Aulene McCormack, Mickayla and Wyatt Casey, Murron and Uriah Arteaga, Margot and Ronan Gaines; and great-great-granddaughter, Tatom Casey; sisters: Linda Payne and husband Dale and Phyllis Erwin; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

The memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. before the service in the chapel.  Burial service will follow at the Rosemont Cemetery in Benton.
