Obituary

Ina Ruth Hutchison Chism, 90, of Benton, passed away being surrounded by love, on Thursday September 4, 2025 at Pleasant Hill Magnolia House Care Home.  Ruth was born in Aly, Arkansas to the late Jerdon and Bernice Lee Hutchison on September 15, 1934.  She and Ed Chism were married on March 2, 1951, enjoyed 71 years of marriage and were considered by all who knew them as a truly inseparable couple.

Ruth was a faithful member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  She worked at Owasso, then Jones Furniture and lastly at the AMF Bicycle Factory before retiring in 1980.  Many of Mom and Dad's retirement years were spent on Lake Ouachita where they enjoyed camping and fishing. Mom was always very intentional (and sometimes insistent) about her manicures.  Over the past few years she thoroughly enjoyed her trips with Tanya to "get those nails done".

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Ed; her daughter, Vinnie Donnor; and her brother, Wayne Hutchison.

She is survived by two sons, Greg Chism (Mary) and Dennis Chism; one daughter, Tanya Shelnut (Marc); son-in-law, Bill Donnor; one brother, J B Hutchison (Faye); one sister, Norma Henson; nine grandchildren, Derek (Jenni), Brad (Erin), Torey, Taira, Kinley, Keeley (Chase), Tim, Jake, Kaylea and Carter who was like  the 10th grandchild; and nine great-grandchildren, Cooper, Collins, Cutter, Landry, Lennox, Tucker, Rylee, Maddie, and Ryder.

Who can find a virtuous woman?  For her price is far above rubies.  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, So that he shall have no need of spoil.  Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain:  But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.  Proverbs 31:10, 11, 30

The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Pleasant Hill Care Homes for the special care that was provided Mom.  We also want to thank Hospice Home Care for the care provided during Mom's last days.

Visitation will be from 12 to 1pm on Wednesday September 10 at Ashby Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 1pm.  Brother Richard Hamlin and Bro. Chris Floyd will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Social Hill Cemetery on Hwy 35 South in Benton.  Pallbearers will be Ruth's grandsons.
