Jesse A. Poyner Jr., 92, of Alexander, Arkansas, completed his race on June 4, 2025

Jesse was born on July 25, 1932 to Jesse A. Poyner Sr. and Etta M. (Rowland) Poyner in Jasper, Arkansas. Jesse spent his youth in the Ozark Mountains cultivating his love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, swimming, and just exploring what nature had to offer.

Shortly after graduating high school, Jesse enlisted in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Iowa during the Korean War.

Jesse was a hard-working and dedicated family man that spent many years as a construction worker, where he was known for his outstanding work-ethic, and dedication to doing a task the right way. He was always known to be someone that could be depended upon, no matter the task.

Jesse was a man who didn't seek to be at the center of attention, but was one who led with a quiet strength; serving his family and brethren in the Churches of God for many years. He was a man who never met a stranger, he was outgoing, as well as funny. He loved to tell stories of his many experiences of youth and his time in the Navy, to his family and friends. His experiences in life and love for the Word of God defined the man that he was. A man that lived his life with integrity, meekness, kindness, and many other desirable traits that left a lasting impact on everyone that knew him.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia Mae Poyner, and brother, James C. Poyner

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Poyner, the love of his life and best friend of 63 years, Son, Derek (Jaci) Poyner, Son, David (Becky) Poyner, and 3 grandchildren Jesse D. Poyner, Zachary Poyner, and Kaitlyn Poyner, Sister, Peggy Harrison, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at 1:00 PM at the Arkansas Veteran Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Street, North Little Rock.
