Jessie Lorado Thomas Mitchell, age 86, of Benton, died Friday March 15, 2024. She was born November 18,1937 in Benton. Jessie is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, John H. Mitchell; her father, Jesse Louis Thomas; her mother, Elsie Robinson Thomas; brothers, Bill Thomas and J. Wilson Thomas; and her first grandchild, Jared Mitchell Swaim.
Surviving relatives include daughters, Paula Mitchell Swaim (Fred) and Karen Mitchell Yarberry (David); brother, Jim Thomas (LeAnn); grandchildren, Haley Yarberry Kostelaz (Michael) and Reid John Yarberry (Fiancée Maddie Cox); great-grandchildren, Hanna, Dawson, and Brooklyn Kostelaz; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Jessie was a member of Northside Church of Christ. She got to remain in her home and cared for by her two daughters & her close friends of many years who provided support & laughter. Jessie was raised in a family that had a love for farming and horses. She competed in Barrel Racing and was named Rodeo Queen in 1955. Jessie was a loving wife, mother, sister, friend, and NANA. She was the best peanut brittle maker to many.
Pallbearers will be Mike Harris, Mike Johnson, Sean Thomas, Jason Thomas, Stephen Chandler, and Kevin Huddleston.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at Ashby Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Haskell. Jim Gardner will be officiating.
