Johnita Maitland, 80, of Largo, FL passed away on May 21 surrounded by loving family. She was born in Sycamore, IL on April 11, 1945.

Later in life, she moved to Florida where her love for nature developed into enjoying kayaking. She had a loving heart, always concerned for the least, the last, and the lost. She was especially a lover of animals: she once rescued a baby bunny, she fed all the neighborhood stray cats, and she always had a beloved dog by her side. She loved traveling with her family, reading, and watching crime television series.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her brother Jerry Maitland, his wife Tarja, cousin Kenny Bates, nieces Marliisa Yarberry (Chris) and Kelsey Maitland (Pete Weber)--all of Benton, AR.

Proceeding in death are her parents Margaret Hanson and John Maitland, aunt Betty Bates, and all of her treasured pets including Gretchen, Sassy, Sadie, Riley and Putham cat.

Memorial donations may be directed to The Humane Society of Saline County in Bauxite, AR. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Saline Memorial Hospital and Alcoa Pines Heath & Rehabilition.
