Joseph Edwin Gibson Sr., age 89, of Benton, went to be with the Lord Friday, August 11, 2023.  He was born May 29, 1934 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to the late Joseph Lee & Edith Brown Gibson. When Joe was 9 years old he asked Jesus into his heart. At the time of his passing he was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Joe joined the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduating from Benton High School. He proudly served his country and was an Atomic War Veteran. In 1956 he married the love of his life, Mary. They were married for 67 wonderful years and always stayed lovingly devoted to each other. During that time they raised 2 children and welcomed a host of grandkids and great grandkids into the world.

Later in life Joe retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was able to spend the last 20 years of his life with his wife traveling and relaxing. He had many hobbies over the years but the one thing he was most passionate about was photography.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Gibson; son, Joseph Edwin Gibson Jr (Detra Gibson); daughter, Tammy Gail Collier (Michael Collier); sister, Marjorie Rowland; seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Collier, Heather Susky (Andrew Susky), Samuel Collier, Seth Collier (Mary Collier), Karis Willis, Kirstie Hudson (Andrew Hudson), and Zoë Szabad (Jared Szabad); and four great-grandchildren, Callie Willis, Henley Nations, Hayes Hudson, and Emma Collier.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17 at Ashby Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 18 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
