Feb 3, 1938 — Mar 11, 2026
Benton
Larry C. Callahan, 88, of Benton, passed into the arms of his Savior that he has so faithfully served on March 11, 2026. He was born February 3, 1938 to Marion C. (Buck) Callahan and Lorene Westbrook Callahan.
He graduated from Harmony Grove High School and went to work for the Coca Cola Company. He then served two years in the army, after which he worked for Reynolds Metals for twenty-two years.
Larry was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 40 years.
He was the adored and adoring Grandpa (Paw) of Callahan Reagan and Kylan Compton. He was always their rock.
His garden was his pride and joy. Everyone that knew him knew about his garden and the size of his current crop of tomatoes.
Larry was an outstanding athlete. He played full court basketball weekly, with guys half his age, until he was 67. He could be seen riding his bike 5 miles around Haskell several times a week into his 80's.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Dennis Lynn Callahan and Charles Carlton Callahan and his sister Sandra Callahan Wallace.
Larry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Callahan, his daughter Dana Compton (Kevin), his grandchildren Callahan Reagan and Kylan Compton, Catie Halac (Andrew) and great-grandsons Cal and Grey Halac and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his Callahan and Westbrook cousins that always checked on him faithfully and a special cousin-in-law Clometa that he loved like a sister.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 16 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial to follow at Mt. Harmony Cemetery. Bro. Mike Doddridge will be officiating.
