Larry Arnold Wertenberger, 73, of Benton, AR entered the gates of Heaven on March 16th, 2025. He was born on July 8th, 1951 in Wabash, IN to James Marvin Wertenberger and Edna Mae (Lautzenheiser) Wertenberger.
Larry was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He graduated from Lakeland High School in LaGrange, Indiana, and then attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he earned a degree in math education. Larry taught math at Shelbyville High School and was also an assistant wrestling coach.
He became an employee of Systematics, Inc. in Muncie, Indiana, eventually transferring to Benton, Arkansas, to continue working for Systematics at their Little Rock headquarters. He continued his career during transitions from Systematics to Alltel and finally Verizon Wireless, where he retired in 2011.
Larry was a member of Salem United Methodist Church for 39 years, where he served selflessly in many areas.
He enjoyed camping and water sports with family and friends at Lake Ouachita. Larry also loved to play golf, a passion he shared with his wife Roxie, and many other friends and family members. Larry provided life-saving blood and platelet donations throughout his lifetime and also enjoyed serving at CJCOHN, a local non-profit, church-affiliated organization providing food and clothing to the surrounding community.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Charles Eugene Wertenberger of Union, Michigan, and his younger brother, Richard Thomas Wertenberger of Baroda, Michigan.
Larry is survived by his wife, Roxie (Pittman) Wertenberger, his sister, Martha Jean (Wertenberger) Young (Danny) of Wolcottville, Indiana, his eldest son, Greg Wertenberger (Kimberly) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, his youngest son, Chris Wertenberger (Mandi) of Benton, Arkansas, and his grandchildren Rebecca and Benjamin Wertenberger (Greg & Kim), and Katherine Wertenberger (Chris & Mandi). Larry is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and a host of cherished friends.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am with an 11:00 am Service following on Friday, March 28th, at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton, AR.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating at your local blood drive or blood bank. Additionally, donations may be made in Larry's honor with CJCOHN.
