Obituary

With deep love and faith in God's promises, we celebrate the life and homecoming of Marla LaSage, who was called home to the Lord on April 15th, at the age of 51.

Born on November 2, 1973 in Abilene, TX, Marla was the cherished daughter of Fay and Oliver DeSpain, who preceded her in death. She lived her life as a faithful servant of Christ, walking humbly and joyfully in His grace. A woman of unwavering faith, her life was a living testimony to the goodness of God.

Her favorite scripture, Psalm 118:24 — "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" — reflected the way she lived: with joy, gratitude, and deep trust in the Lord.

Marla dedicated much of her life to education, serving as a devoted elementary teacher and school librarian at Pine Haven Elementary for many years. Her love for learning, books, and children left a profound imprint on the lives of countless students, families, and fellow educators in the Bauxite community. She had a special gift for nurturing young minds and hearts, and her influence continues through every child she encouraged, every story she shared, and every life she touched.

She was a devoted member of the River Street Church of Christ, Northside Church of Christ, and Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, serving faithfully in each congregation throughout her life. Her gentle spirit and servant's heart were a blessing to all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Fay Despain, and her nephew, Leavon Bowers. Marla is survived by her loving husband, Ricky LaSage; her children, Adrienne and Caleb McElyea, Nikki and Zane Anderson, Zack LaSage, and Lynsey Mangum; her grandchildren, Emryn Anderson, Rhett McElyea, and Fisher McElyea, and her siblings - Jeff Despain and Donna Bowers. She is also survived by a host of beloved friends, church family, her precious pups - Lucy & Paislee - and members of the school and local community who will miss her dearly.

A celebration of Marla's life and faith will be held on Friday, April 18th at First Baptist Church in Benton. Visitation will begin at ten o'clock in the morning, with the funeral following afterwards at eleven o'clock. The family welcomes all who knew and loved her to join in honoring her legacy and rejoicing in the hope of eternal life through Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pine Haven Elementary towards the book fund (the book vending machine) for students who are unable to afford them and for students who exhibit good behavior. Books (paper-back, elementary level) can be brought to the visitation/funeral — a designated table will be set up for collection. Monetery donations can be sent to Nikki Anderson through cashapp. ($NikkiLaSage)

Though our hearts grieve, we are comforted in knowing Marla has found eternal rest and joy in the presence of her Savior. We know she has heard "Well done my good & faithful servant". Her light, her laughter, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all she inspired. Now may we honor her in the way we go forth - may we live in such a way that spreads the light she shone so brightly.
