Mary Evelyn Gibson, age 87, of Benton, went to be with the Lord Friday December 1st, 2023. She was born January 29th, 1936 in Howard County, Arkansas to the late Elbert Dudley & Viola Talitha Cummings Chaney.

Mary met the love of her life, Joseph Gibson Sr., at Benton high school in the early 1950's. On September 14th, 1956 Joe and Mary were married in California. They were able to spend 67 wonderful years building a beautiful life together. During that time they raised 2 children and welcomed a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful Mother and Grandmommy. Mary was a hard working and strong willed woman. She was creative and loved to cook. She was the best wife she could possibly be. She was caring, loving, and helpful to many during her lifetime.

Later in life Mary retired from the State Highway Department where she had been so proud to work. During retirement she was able to spend the last 20 years of her life traveling and relaxing with her beloved husband, Joe.

Mary welcomed Jesus into her heart at a young age.  She spent her entire life dedicated to her Lord and Savior. At the time of her passing she was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Mary is survived by; daughter, Tammy Gail Collier (Michael Collier), son, Joseph Edwin Gibson Jr. (Detra Gibson); six grandchildren, Nathaniel Collier, Heather Susky (Andrew Susky), Samuel Collier, Seth Collier (Mary Collier), Kirstie Hudson (Andrew Hudson), Zoe Szabad (Jared Szabad); and four great grandchildren, Callie Willis, Henley Nations, Hayes Hudson, and Emma Collier; a special sister in law, Anna Chaney; a host of niece and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by; her beloved husband, Joseph Edwin Gibson Sr.; her mother and father, Elbert and Viola Chaney; five siblings, Lorene Bagley, Emogene Watts, Floyd Chaney, Joe Chaney, and David Chaney; grand-daughter Karis Willis and Baby Susky.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday December 7th, 2023 at Ashby Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday December 8th, 2023 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial service to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
