Maryann
Smith
Jun 30, 1932 — May 18, 2026
Haskell/Benton
MaryAnn Smith, of Haskell, of Benton, was born on June 30, 1932, and passed away on May 18, 2026, at the age of 93.
A 1949 graduate of Harmony Grove, MaryAnn went on an adventure after graduation with her aunt to visit relatives in San Francisco, where she stayed for the summer. She found a job, rode the trolley, and walked blocks in 3-inch heels to her new job — much different than Harmony Grove, Arkansas.
When MaryAnn returned to Arkansas, she met the love of her life, Johnnie Smith, at the skating rink. Later, while talking at the State Fair, he asked if he could give her a ride home.
MaryAnn was a devoted wife and mother, making clothes for her children, raising a garden with Johnnie, and canning endless amounts of vegetables. When the children were young, she volunteered with the PTA and in the classroom. She also helped her brother-in-law run his dairy bar, The Cardinal, by the school. Later, once the children were grown, she enjoyed working in accounting at Holland Gravel with her sister-in-law.
MaryAnn was a lady who opened her door, her dining table, and her heart to everyone. Many family members and friends — who became family — would describe MaryAnn as someone who made them feel loved and special. She cherished her family and the home she made with Johnnie.
MaryAnn and Johnnie's love story lasted 71 years, with Johnnie preceding her in death in March 2025. Together they raised three children: Randy Smith (Dana) of Tull, Cindy Boykin of Haskell, and Angela Smith (Arby) of Little Rock.
MaryAnn cherished her grandchildren and loved the times they stayed with her and PawPaw. Each of them carries special memories of their time with Grandmom and PawPaw: Scott Smith, Adam Longstreth, Cody Smith, Alicia Boykin, Layden Smith, Jett Smith, and Bailey Smith.
She was also a proud great-grandmother to Lexi Smith, Jasmine Smith, Kylynn Jones, James Smith, Emily Smith, Karlie Heffernan, and Sky Boyer.
The family would like to thank Elite Hospice for their loving care of MaryAnn for almost two years. You became part of our family, and we love and appreciate you all.
Family visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Pinecrest Memorial Park Pavilion, with the graveside service following at 2:00 p.m. The family will gather at MaryAnn's home for visitors immediately following the service.
