Raymond H. Barton, age 82, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.  He was born in Mena, Arkansas on April 2, 1943 to Russell and Ruby Barton.

Ray was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church for 50 years.

He graduated from Bismarck High School, United Electronics Institute in Louisville, Kentucky and Henderson State University where he earned a BS Degree in mathematics and physics.

Ray had a long career as an educator in Saline County.  First in 1966 with the Harmony Grove School District and later with the Benton School District where he taught computer science and was the first Director of Technology for the district.  After 40 years in the public school systems, he retired in 2006.  After retiring, he taught computer literacy at the Saline County Adult Education Center.

He enjoyed traveling, gardening and attending first his children's and later grandchildren's sporting events.  He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, dad, and pop pop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Lovelace; brother-in-law, Ron Lovelace; brother-in-law, Bob Lewis; niece, Becky Lewis; nephew, Jimmy Barton; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Erma Looper.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kitty; a son, Kristopher Barton; a daughter, Karen (Greg) Chenault; four grandchildren, Graham, Max, Avery Chenault and Bryant Barton; a brother, Tommy Barton (Pat); a sister, Judy Lewis; a sister-in-law, Floy Douglas (David); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, & life-long friends.

A visitation will be held at Ashby Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.  A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Saline County or a charity of one's choice.
