It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel Richard Talkington announces his passing after a brief illness on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24th, 2024 at the age of 88.

Sam will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 29 years, Suzanne, his children, Toni (Jeff), Todd (Julie) and his 4 beloved grandchildren Samatha, Ben, Ashley, and Maddie.  He was predeceased by his mother Ruble, Father LeeRoy and sister, Billie Ruth.  Sam was born on March 16, 1936 in Ward, Arkansas.  His family moved to Bauxite, Arkansas around 1943 where he attended Bauxite schools through High School graduation.

Sam will be remembered as a talented entrepreneur. After spending 4 years serving his country in the Air Force, Sam worked in a convenience store and quickly moved up in 1966, Sam became a store manager of Kentucky Fried chicken and eventually moved up to a Regional Vice President.  Sam later moved on to Mr. Gatti's growing to 300 units from 17 as Chief Operating Officer.  Later Sam became CEO and DIR of International Short Stop.  He and his wife loved traveling in their motorhome all over the country and to visit family. He will also be remembered for his quick wit, even when near death and his love for his many buddies!

In 2002, Sam took over management of Podnuhs BarBQ in Shreveport, LA and later purchased the business.  He retired at the young age of 87 and never stopped longing to start another business!

We thank Elite Sitters and its wonderful sitters who took care of him during his last days as well as Gentive Hospice.

A graveside burial service will be at Rosemont Cemetery on Military Road, 11:00 am Monday, December 30 in Benton, Arkansas. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Sam to Word of God Ministries or Tunnels to Towers Veterans organization.

In addition, a Memorial Celebration of his life will be held January 17, 2025, at Podnuhs BarBQ on Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, LA at 11:30 for friends and family in Shreveport.

Mr. Sam, as he was called by his employees and friends, will be sorely missed!
