Tawanna Dawn Newcomb aka "Sissy", 65, of Benton, was born on May 27, 1959 to Wink and Dovie LaVerne Walker. She went to be with her Saviour on August 13, 2024. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters Patricia Cross and Lita Lewallen. Also brothers Joe Walker and, Pat Ray Cross and a niece Lori Lewallen.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years and the love of her life, Mike. Also her sons, Matt (Kelly) of Little Rock, AR and Jon (Jennifer) of Benton, AR. In addition a brother, Jim Cross of Spokane Valley, WA, a brother Gary Fitzhugh (Jalane) of Benton, AR, and a sister Joyce Robertson (Ronnie Mac) of Haskell, AR. A sister in law, Alieta Walker of Monroe, LA and her best friend, our crazy aunt Rita Mcdade of Tull, AR.

Sissy loved to sew and made beautiful quilts to give away. She was a master at embroidery and held several first place ribbons to prove it. She loved baking, especially pies and everyone brags about their chicken and dressing but sorry yall, moms was the best. As a child her favorite pastime was torturing her younger brother "Jimbo." Like the time she woke him from a deep sleep when he was a young child to a bedroom filled with smoke from multiple blown out candles and who knows what else. Convincing him the house was on fire after she had locked the bedroom door and shut the window after climbing out without him. Mom was always light hearted and full of laughter, ALWAYS. Especially when she was with her best friend Rita. Mom and Rita used to walk together when us boys were young. We particular day we were all out on a walk and came across a section of road with a certain aroma in the air that would make a possum gag, of course we young boys were in hysteria and then mom says, "Sorry, I farted." A couple hundred yards down the road the sweet smell of honey suckel filled the air, someone said, "that smells so good" and Rita replied, "Sorry, I farted." We young boys didn't know how we were going to get our moms back home after the crippling laughter that ensued for the rest of the walk. Sissy loved spending time with the love of her life, Mike, going to the lake or taking road trips. She was one of those people that anyone could talk to about anything and she made all around her feel special. She truly loved her people and was the best mom ever. She adored her "daughters" Jennifer and Kelly. Jen was her "angel" as mom referred to her the last several months and a true God send. Kelly and mom were a pair when together and could get on each other's level. Especially when Kelly was doing her nails as long as the color wasn't that, "shade of red worn by ladies of the night." Sissy will be greatly missed by all who knew her but she is happy and with our King today. Sissy was a member of Saline Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Sunday August 18, 2024 from 6pm-8pm at Ashby Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be Monday August 19, 2024 at 10:00 am at Ashby Funeral Home followed by graveside service at Ebenezer Cemetery in Tull, AR. Brother Kim Hammer officiating, Family and friends are invited for lunch and fellowship at Saline Missionary Baptist after the service.

Pallbearers are Shane Clancy, Jake Cross, Kyle Sanders, Brett Ford, Coy Fitzhugh, Clay Robertson, Casey Fitzhugh, Joshua Ortiz, and Christian Ortiz.
