Velma Jean Bean went to join her loved ones at their final resting place and their heavenly home. Velma Jean Bean, known to most as "Jean," lived all but three years of her life on what is now called Col. Glenn Road in Saline county.
Velma Jean Bean, the youngest of five children, born May 18th, 1931 to Jake and Tennie Warner. Jean married John Coy Bean and had four children: Coy Neal Bean of Jacksonville, Gary Keith Bean and his wife Breta Bean, Robbie Wayne Bean of Austin with his wife Stacy Bean, and Racheal Michelle Clay Jacksonville with her husband Cory. Jean has 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
Jean was a faithful daughter, good wife, a loving mother, a wonderful employee and very trusted friend. She loved her Lord and Savior, always put people first, and raised her children to work hard. When her husband was injured and out of work for a year, she became the breadwinner. When there were children that needed a home, and as a mother, she took them in. You didn't walk in Jean's house and not be offered something to eat, even if it was the food she was going to eat, she wasn't happy until you had something. I'm reminded of the scriptures, "I was cold and you made me warm, I was hungry and you fed me." That was Jean, it didn't matter who you were, or what time it was, she was there. If she had faults it was that she cared so much that would worry herself almost sick over her loved ones. She cared for her mom and dad even in their dying days along with her siblings. Many days you would find Jean reading the Bible, seeking comfort and asking God to help her loved ones. As her husband battled with cancer, she was at his side till the end caring for him. She has been the example of how to serve her fellow man.
Jean was the last living member among her siblings and looked forward to seeing all of her family in Heaven. She was from a generation that believed in hard work, love of God and family. She was no frills and near the end of her life when she had to live with family it was said, she was going from the Flintstones to the Jetsons. She never complicated things with motive, if something needed to be done she simply did it. Today she is surrounded by her God and family fulfilling the old Carter classic song Will the Circle Be Unbroken. It has been said that the value of your life shows the most the day you die, today we stand to honor one that never sought attention, never wanted credit, and never had a debt she didn't pay.

Chapel services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday with Bro. Stephen Bean officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Avilla.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
